CORIE + ADAM | Salvadge One | Chicago, IL

INSPIRATION: Really, it was the venue from day one. we added some personal touches here and there but we didnt need to do much to the space to make it feel like "us". It already was. The venue set the tone since it has such an amazing raw and industrial feel. We also wanted it to feel elegant and romantic so we chose a dark, romantic fall color palate of gold and aubergine and paired that with the glow of candles everywhere. It was perfect.

SPECIAL DETAILS?: We had so many wonderful personalized touches! Many of them were hidden in plain sight. Our alter backdrop consisted of over 600 hand folded paper airplanes. My friends and I spent hours folding airplanes and i found out later that many of the small planes have secret messages from my friends on the inside. There is also one lucky paper crane hidden in with all the airplanes. My grandmother's vintage lace prayer veil was tied around my bouquet and gifts were collected in one of my grandfathers vintage suitcases. Our invitation design was hand painted by a friend of mine and another friend did all of the graphic design. A couple other friends spent an entire evening creating all the table florals. A friend gifted me a vintage purse to carry the day of the wedding, but before she gave it to me she had a small hibiscus ironed onto the inside as a nod to my husbands Hawaiian heritage. To have all the people we love help us put everything together meant the world to us.

THEIR LOVE STORY: We met in October 2010 at Reagan National Airport in Washington DC, the result of a chance encounter at a bar between our separate gates. After an hour of awkwardly memorable conversation and an exchange of social media details, we bon voyaged to our little corners of the country; Adam in Chicago and Corie in Boston. Over next few months we went from text messages to phone calls, and from Skype dates to regular visits; our relationship quickly grew from a curiosity to the real deal. Corie moved to Chicago in April 2012, and Adam proposed in March of 2014.
